Terms of service

These terms are the agreement between you and Katla Privacy AB ("we", "us"), the company behind Tare. They cover the Tare app, the website at tare.email and the Tare account service, together "Tare". By creating an account or using Tare you agree to them. If you use Tare for a company or another organisation, you agree on its behalf and confirm that you are allowed to.

1. What Tare is

Tare is an email client that runs on your computer. It connects straight to your mail provider, so your messages and the logins to your mailboxes stay on your device and with that provider. They do not pass through our servers. Your mail provider's own terms apply to the mailbox itself.

The account service is the part we run: your Tare account, your team, your subscription, the devices you have signed in, Cloud Sync and read statuses.

2. Your account

  • An account belongs to one person and is created with an email address you can receive mail at. While Tare is opening up a few people at a time, you may need an invitation.
  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • Keep your mailbox and your devices secure. What is done through your account is your responsibility, so tell us at once if you think someone else has got into it.

3. Free trial

A new account gets a free trial. It starts the first time you sign in to Tare from the app, and no card is asked for. Your dashboard shows when it ends. After that, the features that need a subscription stop working until a subscription is taken out.

4. Subscriptions and payment

  • A subscription belongs to a team and is paid per seat, by the month or by the year, in advance. Every member of a team takes one seat, and an owner of the team chooses how many seats it has.
  • The price is the one shown at checkout. Prices are stated without VAT and other taxes, which are added where they apply.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never receive or store your card details.
  • A subscription renews at the end of each period until it is cancelled. If a payment fails we try again over the following days; if it keeps failing, the subscription ends.
  • Seats can be changed at any time. Added seats are charged straight away for what is left of the period. Removed seats become a credit on the next invoice.
  • An owner can cancel at any time from the billing page of the dashboard. The subscription then runs to the end of the period already paid for and is not renewed. Payments for a period that has started are not refunded, except where the law says otherwise.
  • If you buy as a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the United Kingdom, you can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days by writing to hello@tare.email, and we refund what you paid.
  • We may change our prices. We will email the owners of a team at least 30 days before a new price applies to it, and it applies from the next renewal, so there is time to cancel first.

5. Teams

A team has owners and members. Owners decide who is in the team, how many seats it has and how it is billed, and can let colleagues join by invitation or through an email domain the team has verified. If you invite people or verify a domain, you confirm that you are entitled to do so, and the organisation behind the team answers for how its members use Tare.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Tare to break the law, or to send spam, malware or phishing;
  • get into accounts, mailboxes or devices that are not yours;
  • probe, disrupt or overload the service, or work around its limits or the need for a subscription;
  • resell Tare or share one account between several people;
  • copy, modify or reverse engineer the app, except where the law gives you that right.

Read statuses are off until you turn them on. If you do, using them lawfully is up to you, including telling the people you write to where your law requires it.

7. AI features

Summaries, drafts and other AI features run on a model on your own machine or through your own subscription with another provider, never through our servers. When you use another provider, what you ask goes from your device to them, and their terms apply. What a model writes can be wrong: read it before you rely on it or send it.

8. Your content and your data

Your mail is yours, and we do not receive it. Cloud Sync carries your settings, encrypted with a key that only your devices hold. We cannot read what it stores, and we cannot recover it for you if you lose every device and your recovery key. The privacy policy describes the personal data we handle.

9. The software

For as long as you follow these terms, you may install and use the Tare app. That right is personal to you and cannot be passed on. Tare itself, with its name, its logo and its code, stays ours. Parts of the app are open source and come under their own licences.

Tare is in beta. Features may change, break or be withdrawn, and the app updates itself from time to time. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

10. Availability

We work to keep the account service running, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of faults. Because the app talks to your mail provider directly, mail you have connected keeps working when the account service does not. If we close Tare or withdraw a feature you have paid for, we refund the part of the period you have not used.

11. Closing an account

You can stop using Tare at any time. To close your account, write to hello@tare.email. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or that puts the service or other people at risk, and where we reasonably can we warn you first. When an account is closed we delete what we hold for it, apart from what the law requires us to keep, such as invoices.

12. Liability

Tare is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we give no warranties beyond what these terms say, and we are not liable for indirect loss, lost profit or lost data. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for Tare in the twelve months before the claim arose.

None of this limits our liability for intent or gross negligence, or any liability the law does not allow to be limited. If you are a consumer, the rights the law gives you are not affected.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies. If you do not agree, cancel your subscription and stop using Tare before then; carrying on means that you accept the new terms.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Swedish law, and disputes are settled by the Swedish courts. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in and may bring a case before the courts there. A consumer can also turn to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes, arn.se.

If part of these terms turns out not to be valid, the rest still applies. You may not transfer this agreement to someone else. We may transfer it to a company that takes over Tare.

15. Contact

Questions about these terms go to Katla Privacy AB at hello@tare.email.
